Galt's Gulch :: We Can Build It

You didn't build that.
-Barack Obama
Oh, we built it and can do it again.

As I write this the following is the election results I am seeing.
Will Galt's Gulch become a reality? Probably. But people will not physically move to a geographical location and go into hiding. What will happen is we will hide our money.

We can build Galt's Gulch by creating a new economic system. Do business in the U.S. but handle our money in foreign accounts completely with a currency that is more stable. The U.S. dollar is going to suffer drastically.

A good place to look to is China. With their currency kept artificially low it would be a great economic system for us to take advantage of. As the dollar falls it will not be possible for China to continue to fix their currency. It will eventually expand to its actual value. If you are invested in it you will make money.

It is sad because the political system in China is Communist but they are moving their economic system more towards capitalism. The U.S. government and economy is moving more towards pure Socialism every day. The capitalists will find a way to remain capitalists.

Galt's Gulch will become a reality. We will starve out the government. The government needs us. We don't need the government.

Why did ___ cross the road?

Roll over the red boxes for punch line.

Why did Romney cross the road?
Because he knows how to work with the other side.

Why did Obama cross the road?
To get to the campaign dollars on the other side.

Why did Ron Paul cross the road?
Because he got kicked out of the convention.

Why did Obama cross the road?
To get to the celebrity endorsement on the other side.

Why did Gary Johnson cross the road?
Because no one is paying attention to him and he could get away with jaywalking.

Why did Obama cross the road?
To get to the golf course.

Why did Nancy Pelosi cross the road?
Her face-lift snapped and flung her across.

Why did Obama cross the road?
To get to the talk show instead of doing his job. Work is hard.

Why did Soledad O'Brien cross the road?
I don't know. She is so clueless even she doesn't knows why!

Final Presidential Debate

I was dreading this debate. The foreign policy debate. The most useless debate.

Foreign policy is a fluid issue and is nearly pointless in having a whole debate about it. Foreign policy as part of a debate is fine.

The only concrete thing to really argue about is what the incumbent did right and wrong. From there the arguments are from hind-sight which is 20/20. You can also argue what your general stance is about the role of the US and the military and whom we should be friendly with. Unfortunately in the real world this can all turn on a dime based on world events so the debate is useless.

Did you notice how quickly the candidates turned to talking about the economy and education?

I did not finish watching the debate because wow, boring and useless. I did catch a little of CNN analysis when it was over. I thought it appropriate that the clueless Soledad O'Brien was interviewing the clueless undecided voters.

I found it interesting that throughout all of the analysis of arguing who won the debate that in the end most CNN pundits said it didn't really matter; what matters is who wins the election.

Sometimes CNN gets it right.

Lesser of Two Evils

I'm not voting Obama or Romney. I keep hearing that my "protest" vote is a vote for the other guy. If I am not voting for your candidate of the two front runners you probably think the same thing.

My vote can not be a vote for "the other guy." It does not get counted for them. If both sides feel it is, then it obviously is not. It is a vote for my candidate.

Do you want to see Obama with four more years? Do you want to see Romney as president? The two mainstream candidate supporters will ask you one of these questions to scare you into their candidates camp. They will tell you that these two are the only ones that have a chance to get elected. You need to vote for the candidate that can beat the one you dislike the most. If you do not you are throwing away your vote, or your vote is really for the guy you dislike the most.

You are not throwing away your vote!

Why not? Because you are helping to ensure that whomever wins does not win by a majority.

A majority win is an awful thing to give a candidate. They will use it as a reason to push their will. They will claim that it is a mandate from the people for him to implement his policies. This is dangerous thinking and reasoning.

If you do not like either Obama or Romney, do not vote for them, but still vote!

Do not believe the claim that this is the most important election ever. Do not believe the lies that this is not the time to turn to third party candidates; wait four years to do that. We hear these lies every presidential cycle. If you want a third party candidate, vote third party! It is your vote!

If you vote for the lesser of two evils instead of whom you consider a good candidate, what does that say about you, voting for evil instead of good?

Those of you that are Obama and Romney supporters that use the lesser of two evils argument instead of convincing people your candidate is good, what does that say about you? What good person convinces another to go with evil instead of good?

Is there an Obama energy war?

The Cato Institute is a wonderful organization and day by day I realize I am more Libertarian than Republican or conservative. Recently Cato has released a couple of podcasts about Obama's energy performance, NOT policies, and the criticism he has received.

The Cato podcasts bring up some interesting points. If you are anti-Obama or strongly against his policies these podcasts might take a bit of your enthusiasm out of your objection to Obama's administration. However, maybe you will take away from these podcasts what I did:
  • Obama's opponents make a mountain out of a mole hill. Single incidents that they do not like are reframed as Obama's whole policy.
  • Cato has looked at how Obama has handled coal and oil seperately. It is a wider view of what has happened across the board in those individual energy fields and whether or not there are differences from his predecessors.
  • The Cato podcasts do not address Obama's overall policies. An even wider look would show that what looks like a lack of change in oil and coal policies ignores the tendency to promote wind and solar over coal and oil.
In the end, for all of the information these podcasts gave, it can be considered a bit of a highlighting of how incompetent Obama might be. Obama has stated he wants to limit coal and oil. Has he failed to do that?

Depending on how wide or narrow we change our views on politics changes the perception of what is happening. Also, we need to remain conscious of the differences are between what a politician says the will do, what they set up as policies, and what actually happens.

Sometimes what actually happens is less important than what they want to do. If some one says over and over they are going to stab you but don't do it does not mean you ignore them. One of those times they will try and you will want to be on your guard!

Does size matter?

I'm not going to "Suck It Up" and vote for Romney.

I do not want Obama to win the election in 2012, but that does not mean I am voting for Mitt Romney. TokenLibertarianGirl (Julie Borowski) won't be voting for Romney either. She has a neat video here about the Republicans trying to woo the Ron Paul supporters.

I do not like Ron Paul, but what was done to him at the Republican convention was wrong. It highlights how bad the mechanism of the Republican party is, just like the Democratic party. I am not saying the two parties are the same; they are not. They are just steamroller political processes of different ideologies.

So if I do think the parties are different, why not Romney? Remember 2008? I had to hold my nose to vote for McCain. Now we have Romney whom couldn't beat McCain for the Republican nomination in 2008. How bad do you have to be if you can not do that?

Face it. It has been a while since we had a true Republican be the nominee of the Republican party. Time to jump ship and find a better candidate.

Lee Doren crushes anti-Romney mailer

Mr. Doren crushes the claims made by an anti-Romney mailer with the facts that the mailer cites. In the end you will see that the same people that wrote this mailer would say Romney enjoys cannibalism if he said enjoyed the TV show the Walking Dead.

Obama Supporters Want to put a Gun to Their Foot

Mitt Romney's idea of tax fairness is framed as greedy. The Obama campaign is putting class warfare front and center. They have people thinking that Romney is going to put the middle class on the chopping block so that millionaires can have it easy.

They didn't say it, they almost did, but you know they want to say to raise the taxes on the millionaires. But if they do that, who ends up on the chopping block with the millionaires?

Watch the video and think about it:

Investments. That is how Romney made his money. Capital gains are taxed at a lower level. So raise them to punish millionaires.

Who else would get hurt?

Retirees! If a retiree has planned their own retirement and invested in stocks they are at risk when you punish the millionaires by raising capital gains. The very people calling for raising these taxes are begging for a reason to work longer to save for retirement and do with less once they do retire in order to punish the rich.

The people also get hurt by raising capital gains taxes because it slows investment in companies. This slows growth of companies. This slows the growth of the job market.

Good job Obama campaign! I bet you could convince these people to cut off their noses.

Obama's Blatant Lie

Let us remember the heinous quote that Romney made that people are jumping all over:
Well, there are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. There are 47% who are with him--who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they’re entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. It’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. These are people who pay no income tax. My job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.

Now let us take a look at an ad put out today from the Obama campaign:

Did you notice that? Obama is trying to get the working middle class to dislike Romney by saying he was talking about them. He wasn't concerned about people who pay taxes.

But look at Romney's quote again. If the 47% Romney is talking about is the 47% that don't pay taxes then this ad is a lie because Obama said Romney is slighting tax payers. If the 47% are those who will vote for Obama no matter what, then it is true there is no convincing them to vote for Romney even if they are a tax payer.

Romney was also singling out people that take benefits and expect to be taken care of at the expense of the tax payer. How does Obama get that Romney doesn't care about the tax payer?

Simple. Lie.

The ad ends with a complaint about how much Romney paid in taxes in which most of his income was made from investments. Is investing bad? Isn't that what Obama says he is doing? Taking our tax dollars and investing in companies that fail?

If Romney is MAKING HIS MONEY through investments and Obama is LOSING all of OUR MONEY through investments, who is the better choice?

The Obama Campaign's YouTube Temper Tantrum

The Obama campaign has a skin as thin as Obama himself. They are like a crybaby in the schoolyard that doesn't get their way.

Here we have a video of Mitt Romney taken out of context. It starts with a clip of Romney stating that he was taken out of context and then cuts to a definition of "context." Really? the definition? Have they forgotten the interview Obama had with Stephanopoulos? Remember Stephanopoulos read the definition of "tax" and Obama said he was stretching?

Obama ends up showing he does not understand what a tax is because he thinks the definition of a tax is reaching, false, a far cry from what it really is.

Now the Obama campaign just mucks things up. Shows the definition of "context" then violates it. Then thanks Romney. And ... what? What is the point?

Candidates can say stupid things along the campaign trail. We know when Obama said he visited 57 states he meant 47. We just make fun of it because the press covered it up but would blare McCain gaffes as if it made him unfit for office. The only gaffer unfit for office is Biden. His are so numerous he must be a moron.

This "context" video is not a gaffe. It was planned and time was spent on it. It makes no sense and makes the campaign look like it is run by resentful tweens that were not invited to a birthday party.

But it gets better.

The video about Romney's tax returns complains that Romney has overseas investments. That's bad? It's not illegal. The U.S. economy and businesses are doing poorly. Wouldn't you put your money where it will grow?

Also, Romney is betting against the American dollar because he has invested in four other currencies? Not illegal. And it is not betting against the dollar but diversifying. America has had its credit rating downgraded twice! Why would you put all of your money in one basket? The Euro is also tanking. No one knows what currency will stay strong.

But Obama and his campaign would not understand this. Obama considered working at a business as being behind enemy lines. How could he be expected to understand the value of a dollar?

So the video goes on to complain that Romney has released only two years of tax returns. Take a look:

Didn't that just sound childish? Romney has complied with the law. He did what was right. But like a little crybaby the campaign complains "but your dad showed us 12 years, and H.W. Bush showed us 19 years, and ..." well, you saw. Are children running this campaign?

Have they forgotten about the fact that Obama has not released his school records? He was touted as one of the smartest men to ever run for president. Other candidates released their school records. It is a bit foolish to demand something of your opponent that you have not done for four years.

The video ends asking what is Romney hiding. Really? Obama's autobiography didn't even tell what really happened. His author bio said he was born in Kenya. He was in office for two years before he showed his birth certificate. What is Obama hiding?

Do you get the feeling the Obama strategy is based off of "I know you are but what am I?"
