A Chinese Expat's View on Common Core
Well, maybe not an expat but an escapee.
The government's self insertion into student loans for college has also been very damaging distorting college costs. The promotion that everyone should go to college is equally damaging.
Our society is being diverted from the value of trade schools. The schools that make the workers that keep the world working.
Many people in their early teens have figured out their path. Eighteen is too old an age to make a person stay in school. By sixteen many of us knew what we wanted to do.
Decentralize education and let the states run it.
Teacher's Union is looking out for the interest of teachers, not students; otherwise it would be called the Student Union.

Baiting the Cops or Harassment?
So Jeff (RantWithJeff) had a colourful response to Michigan cops reacting to some men exercising their right to open-carry.
This is the video he reacted to:
So do you think they were baiting the cops or was this harassment?

Who cares? [ Your pathetic distractions ]
Watch the Super Bowl?
Who cares?
Team so-n-so passed and kicked a ball more than team such-n-such!
Who cares?
Our President threatens to violate the law of the land to write into law what HE thinks should be law.
Who cares?
Famous actor blah-blah-bloffman died!
Our President lied to us over and over to pass a health care law that so far has netted people losing health care; a majority of those that have not lost it now pay more. The effects are opposite of the promise.
Who cares?
Singer you-know-who did an inappropriate performance at an awards show. Let's all get upset and talk about it!
Our President lied to the nation AND the United Nations about why four or more Americans died in Benghazi.
But who really cares?
Really?
Your liberties are slowly being chipped away but you still have your general comfort level; you still can enjoy your pop culture distraction.
Who cares?
Obviously you don't!
Who cares?
That one percent, no, not the rich, those that serve. That one percent that promise their lives so that you may be free. That one percent that actually lose their first amendment rights to protect yours. That one percent that some frame as the evil military. That one percent that is a paradox of what some think means freedom.
Who cares?
Help the poor! Those that care about the poor care! Take from the rich!
Who cares?
We all should. This desire to protect the poor shifted care coming from the people to care coming from the government. But the government sucks at it! Charities must abide by certain guidelines, but the government that imposes these guidelines fails at these guidelines in their own welfare programs.
Who cares?
I care.
That is why I am telling you too many of you are idiots.
How can you care better?
Very simple.
When you vote, are you voting for someone that supports personal liberties or the common good?
Vote for personal liberties. That will increase the common good.
Voting for the common good is a vote for government control; the government can not do anything right. You've seen that, right? DMV, ACA?
Vote for singularity, not group control.
Do you care?

The FCC is Promoting Liberty
We are seeing a glimmer of hope and common sense coming from the FCC in regards to a consumer's ability to use a product they own the way they want. This is in regards to the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress interpreting the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to mean a consumer is not allowed to alter their phone without permission from the company that produced it, ever. Even out of contract.
This is a partial quote from a statement by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski:
This is a partial quote from a statement by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski:
From a communications policy perspective, this raises serious competition and innovation concerns, and for wireless consumers, it doesn't pass the common sense test. The FCC is examining this issue, looking into whether the agency, wireless providers, or others should take action to preserve consumers' ability to unlock their mobile phones. I also encourage Congress to take a close look and consider a legislative solution.
The Government Doesn't Create Jobs, It Destroys Them
Remember the Buckyballs' controversy from the summer? Remember how the Consumer Product Safety Commission was suing because a few kids swallowed magnets? Even though the product was not sold in toy stores and marketed to adults and came with warnings not to swallow?
Maxfield & Oberton Holdings, LLC, the Buckyballs company, mocked the lawsuit with some startling facts about beds, stairs, tube steaks, hippos, and coconuts. The blogosphere and conservative sites all bemoaned the lawsuit. And then ... ?
The issue has been closed, and it has been closed for a while and I missed it.
The message you get when you go to the official BuckyBalls' site is as follows:
Yes. Buckyballs is officially out of business.
How did we miss this? They were gone in December! A Christmas gift going away! Well, they closed in December but the announcement was early November. That means in the final throws of an American election the press were silent on the closing of an American company due to the government frivolously pursuing them in the middle of an American recession, or is it a depression now?
So this means that we can no longer get Buckyballs, right?
Wrong!
There is a place to get them online: Buckyballs Club. Cool! The government didn't win, right? Well, go to the about page and look at the bottom and see the prominent shipment carrier: China Post.
This means I checked the site and got a "WhoIs" from network-tools.com. The result is the site is owned by a Chinese company.
And this administration has been complaining about the sequester and how it would cost jobs? Federal jobs, yes. But do they care about private sector jobs?
I don't know. Maybe it is just too dangerous for Americans to sell magnets. It is much safer to buy them online from China. Tax day is coming up. Pay your taxes so they can make jobs.

On December 27, 2012 Maxfield & Oberton Holdings, LLC (the "Company") stopped doing business and filed a Certificate of Cancellation with the Secretary of State of Delaware, thereby ceasing to exist pursuant to applicable Delaware law. The MOH Liquidating Trust has been established to deal with and, to the extent they are valid, pay, to the extent assets are available, certain claims which have been, and may later be, asserted against the Company. If you believe you have a claim against the Company, please click on link below to obtain the Proof of Claim form which you must complete and submit to the Trustee of the MOH Liquidating Trust. If the Trustee determines that a claim is valid, the Trustee will pay that claim, to the extent assets are available, in accordance with the terms of the MOH Liquidating Trust.

If not even Detroit is in the list of the ten worst cities to live in, maybe we still are doing fine.

Galt's Gulch :: We Can Build It
You didn't build that.Oh, we built it and can do it again.
-Barack Obama
As I write this the following is the election results I am seeing.
Will Galt's Gulch become a reality? Probably. But people will not physically move to a geographical location and go into hiding. What will happen is we will hide our money.
We can build Galt's Gulch by creating a new economic system. Do business in the U.S. but handle our money in foreign accounts completely with a currency that is more stable. The U.S. dollar is going to suffer drastically.
A good place to look to is China. With their currency kept artificially low it would be a great economic system for us to take advantage of. As the dollar falls it will not be possible for China to continue to fix their currency. It will eventually expand to its actual value. If you are invested in it you will make money.
It is sad because the political system in China is Communist but they are moving their economic system more towards capitalism. The U.S. government and economy is moving more towards pure Socialism every day. The capitalists will find a way to remain capitalists.
Galt's Gulch will become a reality. We will starve out the government. The government needs us. We don't need the government.

Obama Campaign Redefines American Flag as "FORWARD"
The whole controversy of the Obama logo in the American flag was B.S. It was not a controversy. All sorts of politicians use the American flag and redesign it into their political campaigns. Red, white, and blue is patriotic, and we all feel patriotic. So we package ourselves in the American flag.
What is wrong is to instead of saying you are American, you are patriotic, is to say America is you. The American flag stands for you, not the country.
And now the Obama campaign has stepped over the line and done that.
A video posted on the Obama campaign's YouTube channel is titled "A Symbol of Moving Forward" and uses an image of the American flag. I thought that there is no way that this could be as bad as it looks. I thought this must be a coincidental title and image juxtaposition. I was wrong.
Now the Obama campaign itself does not equate the American flag with Obama's vision of Дmєлiќa, but the title insinuates it means "Forward." What they have done instead is let the Chief Operations Officer, Matthew O'Connor, of a small business that makes American flags redefine the flag for them. He gets the symbolism completely wrong.
The stars on the blue field represent a new constellation. In 1795 the flag bloated to 15 stripes. In 1818 a law passed fixing the number of stripes to the original 13 stripes to honor the original colonies and the number of stars would represent the number of states.
Fixed design. Represents the states. Honor the past. Where's the change? Where's the "forward?"
People coming to America see it as a land of freedom, liberty, and opportunity. Many of us see the flag as a symbol of freedom and liberty.
We do not see the American flag as a symbol of change. We do not see it as a symbol of "forward."

The United States flag was created as a symbol of moving forward. Written into the fabric of the flag is the notion of change. As a living example we can constantly improve and reach our greatest potential.WRONG!

Something the Obama Administration got Right
AllGov.com is a nice website to get tipped off on different news stories about outrageous stuff the government is doing. However, the site takes a decidedly slanted left stance on the stories.
Both AllGov and the Sydney Morning Herald have given the Obama administration a little dig for something that they did right! It seems these two news organizations think it is unprecedented for an administration to label someone that leaks government secrets, even during a time of war, an enemy. The Obama administration considers WikiLeaks an enemy and that is unprecedented?
WikiLeaks is an enemy of the U.S.!
The only way I could be against the Obama administration on this would be their reason for doing so. We have to get into conspiracy theory here.
Could this just be a method to clamp down on free speech? The recent attacks on the U.S. in the Middle East in which the Obama administration blamed a YouTube video, blamed a private citizen that was arrested on "unrelated charges," tried to have this video taken down, shows the administration's abhorrence of free speech.
I, however, think they just got it right. Leaking government secrets is bad.
