Hippie Company Leaves California for Texas

Well, I don't know if it is a hippie company or not but Jamba Juice does really sound like one: a company that sells healthy juice. That's cool. And it is not surprising it has been operating out of California for more than 25 years.

But Jamba Juice will be moving its headquarters to Texas. Why?
In a statement, Chief Executive David Pace said Jamba was looking for places that had “competitive operating costs,” access to “skilled restaurant talent” and an “attractive cost of living,” along with a central location for further expansion.
After that explanation the Los Angeles Times tries to reexplain the move.
Thanks in part to the success of the technology industry, labor and real estate in the Bay Area come at a high price.

Staying in the Bay Area can be lucrative and valuable for companies in the innovation sector since employees in the area tend to be more creative and productive, said Enrico Moretti, an economics professor at UC Berkeley.
See. It's the tech industry driving them out. Not high taxes and regulations. It's the tech industry, which forced Space X to leave California too?

Mandatory Solar Panels

San Francisco is a parody of itself.

New commercial or residential buildings under 11 stories must have solar panels.

Want to build a new bar with a rooftop deck? Think again. Make room for those solar panels!

Want to build a home in a planned community? Think again. Those solar panels might be an eyesore and so you can not build your home. You now own a useless lot.

Do these law makers even think? Under 11 stories requires solar panels? So someone builds a building next to you on the south side at 20 stories and doesn't need solar panels? Plus they block your sunlight rendering your solar panels useless?

Retards run California.

The Department of Energy conducts research to make wind turbines less effective

Is the Department of Energy really conducting research to make wind turbines less effective?

Essentially the DOE is conducting research to ensure less birds are killed with wind turbines. That sounds good since wind is supposed to be a green energy and it should not adversely affect wildlife, but it currently does. And the expected results of the research will be the following:
The ultimate goal is to detect birds flying near a turbine with enough time to for the turbine blades to stop spinning and prevent a collision.
"Renewable energy" is already unreliable enough. Now tech is being designed to shut it off if wildlife is in the vicinity. Terrorists don't need to blow up our power grid; they only need to release a few birds near it.

Let's take a look at the propaganda video and see if there might be some problems with the research.

Did you see the problem with the research in the video?

The turbines were not moving!

The eagles were flying without the distraction of a moving target or the effect of low frequency noise. If you are unfamiliar with "low frequency noise" then do a search on it. There are many horror stories of the affects associated with wind turbines.

Maybe there were tests with the turbines running which would mean the eagles were then put at risk. Who knows? Maybe a bird or two died in the data collection.

What else could go wrong?

How about this paragraph:
The birds used in the recent flights belong to Auburn University’s Southeastern Raptor Center, a rehabilitation center for birds of prey. These eagles are not trained for extensive flights; they are trained to soar across a football stadium and land on the field, so the researchers modified their tests accordingly. They used a man lift to take the eagles as high as possible before releasing them so they could trade altitude for airspeed.

Trained birds that are trained to fly one hundred yards or less to fetch a reward were used to simulate wild birds flying in predatory patterns looking for prey (reward). Yeah. Sure. Releasing them as high as you can will account for modified behavior between a domesticated bird and a wild bird.

Two companies and a government agency did this. Many adults had to be involved. Did not anyone say, "I see a problem?" In the end imperfect data was produced.

Why not set up cameras that activate when the turbines are active? You get data on multiple species that are actually behaving normally in the situations you want to prevent accidents.

Or am I being too sensible in gathering real world data?

No such thing as straight women?

Psychologists are some of the most over-educated idiots. The normalization of homosexuals then transgenders and now there is no such thing as a "straight woman!"

What the hell is going on? Not only are you a bad person if you don't like homosexuality, or don't agree with gay marriage, or think transgender is a mental issue, but now you are abnormal or lying to yourself if you think you're straight?

The article summarizes the study which observes women looking at videos of naked people. There is zero mention of studying men which could serve as a control group. But the study claims that since women get aroused seeing a naked woman that means they are not straight!

Really!?

I bet if men were used in this study they would become aroused by seeing a naked man because they would expect it to be porn and would see a naked woman soon. This does not make you gay!

Most people are straight! All of you that fall out of the norm should just deal with it. We don't care about your lifestyle until you keep shoving it in our face demanding we validate you because of your nontraditional lifestyle.

Validation comes from good works, so go do something good and stop talking about your genital preferences.

Ban Has Opposite Effect

It is amusing when do-gooders impose their do-gooding on others to help them but end up hurting them instead. It is even more amusing when an activist site posts a link to the story detrimental to their cause.

"Ban the Bottle" has linked to an article that describes the failure of banning bottled water, the site's own cause.

Although the article states reasons for banning bottled water that are rich for poking logical errors in, I'll stick with what happened at the University of Vermont.

Once the University of Vermont banned bottled water, sales of other beverages increased instead of students using the drinking fountain (intended effect). You can't take a drinking fountain into your classroom. Imagine that; students picking a different convenience.

Total calories from beverages rose by over 20 per cent on a per capita basis. The share of healthy beverages sold on campus dropped by more than half.

Read the article and shake your head. People never learn that banning is not a solution.

Lack of Standards Example

The progressive redefining of morality and the feminization of men is going to be devastating. The constant ignoring of the obvious to redefine standards to hide the truth from people so that they are not uncomfortable is making people stupid.

A twenty-something couple talk to Stefan Molyneux asking "what's wrong with polyamory?" The guy in the conversation is a perfect example of how men are being crushed by today's media message for men not be men and how over-intellectualizing makes you stupid.

Government Propaganda at Comic Con?

I do not care about Comic Cons but I worry about government propaganda. The Department of Energy, which has an agenda and makes policies based on that agenda, is holding a panel at the Baltimore Comic Con to "discuss the interplay between science and cinema."

You do realize this means that tax dollars are being used to send government employees to Comic Con? If the government needs a presence anywhere it is Comic Con. If the IRS can make a Star Trek video why not the Department of Energy at Comic Con?

So who is going to be on this panel? A Minorities in Energy Champion, two employees from the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, and an employee from the Office of Environmental Management. The Office of Environmental Management is quite legit since it is for the cleanup up of the "nuclear legacy" from government nuclear research. The others try to force the world into the agency's world view.

There is another member on the panel not listed on the DoE's announcement and that is Marius Stan. You can find this at the Comic Con site. He is listed as a DoE Senior advisor and actor from Breaking Bad; he is also a scientist.

Maybe I'm making something out of nothing. It is not like they are handing out propaganda, unless you consider handing out a children's coloring book, Get Current, that promotes only renewable energy. You know. Teach kids it's a good idea to turn food into fuel when people are starving in other countries or even at home.

No chance of propaganda here.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

The Secret Service is between a rock and a hard place. After too many mistakes that received quite a bit of press coverage it is not surprising that there was this poor judgement to shut down a park for security purposes.

Why was it poor judgement to shut down the park?

The shut down ended up shutting down "CureFest for Childhood Cancer." The rally had a permit and half the attendees were children. Many people ended up not being able to enter the park to just get items left behind.

Did anyone in the Secret Service take a moment and think that this might not be a good idea?

Children Sue Government Over Global Warming

NASA scientist Dr. James Hansen and several children are suing the U.S.Government over the continuing burning of fossil fuels contributing global warming. This ends up violating their future 9th amendment rights depriving them of life, liberty and property.

There has not been one computer model to get climate predictions right. There has been an 18 year measured pause in global warming. None of that matters if you can use children as pawns to further your agenda.

Government Studies the Painfully Obvious

The National Institutes of Health reports that in a study there are adult Americans that have experienced pain withing 3 months of that study. Amazing. As you grow older you might experience pain.

The study also finds people experiencing pain are more likely to have poor health and use more health care. Wow. It's almost as if when you are sick your body tells you that you are sick through pain. And who would've thought someone sick and in pain is more likely to use health care than a healthy person that is not in pain. It seems to defy logic!

And get this. People that still experience pain after medication might turn to yoga, massage, and meditation to manage the pain. Wow. Doing something about pain instead of just looking at it.

I've learned a lot today. Thank you for this study.

Government Finally Cuts Spending

Yeah! The government has finally cut some spending!

What have they cut?

Disposable plates and cutler!

I'm fine with this, but it is a bit silly. Most businesses consider these items a regular business expense. People eat at their desks sometimes so they can continue working. This is good for the company because they get more work out of their employees.

But if this saves us enough money so we can study shrimp on a treadmill, go for it!

I support the police but...

The stupidity is incredible. Just incredible.

Here is the set of information that the Court and the police had:
  • The police were receiving online threats coming from a specific IP address
  • The IP address belongs to a 68 year old woman's wifi network
  • The woman's wifi network is unprotected
  • Two houses down from the woman is a man with a history of making threats against the police
What happened next?

A U.S. Circuit Judge recommended waiting a day or two to get a better understanding of whom was responsible.

What happened next?

The day after the court's recommendation the police sent in an 11 man SWAT team knocking down a door and throwing two flash bang grenades through an open window at, guess who's house? That right. The 68 year old woman's house.

The 68 year old woman and her 18 year old daughter, yes, the story says 18 year old daughter, were put in handcuffs and interrogated. After it was obvious they were not involved they were released.

What happened next?

The next day the police asked the other suspect, yes, asked, to come in for questioning.

The police justified the first assault because they thought there might be someone armed and dangerous inside the home.

Seriously. WTF?
