Perdue's Wish

Governor Perdue was walking along the beach when she came upon a lamp. She rubbed the lamp and a genie appeared.

The genie said "I am the genie of he lamp. I will grant you three wishes."

Perdue said "Wonderful! I want the elections suspended for two years so that our congressmen and women can work on the economic problems we have without worrying about repercussions."

The genie said "Your wish is granted."

Two years later Perdue rubs the lamp again and the genie appears. "I am the genie of the lamp. You have two wishes left."

Perdue says "It's awful! Elections were suspended and they didn't work on solving our economic problems! Things are much worse!"

The genie said "You wished for the suspension of the elections so that they could work on the problem. You did not wish that they would work on the problem."

Perdue says "Okay. I wish for the elections to be suspended for another two years and that our congressmen and women will work on the problems we have without worrying about repercussions."

The genie said "That is actually three things: suspend elections, work on economic problems, and don't worry about repercussions. You can only pick two."

"Very well," said Perdue. "The elections are in a few months. I think they can get everything done by then, if we forget about suspending elections, with my other two wishes."

The genie said "Your wishes are granted."

A few months later Perdue rubs the lamp again and the genie appears. "I am the genie of the lamp, but you have no wishes left."

Perdue said "I know, but what went wrong? The politicians' solution for improving the economy was granting Federal spending to friend's and family's businesses! Things are more corrupt and even worse! How did this happen?"

The genie replied "You didn't want them to worry about repercussions."
